MCC Launches Specialized Kids College Summer Academies for Future Firefighters, Law Enforcement, Healthcare, and Veterinarian Heroes
May 7, 2025
As summer break approaches, many parents wonder how to keep their children engaged during their time off. While parents often seek educational opportunities, kids are usually looking for fun, hands-on experiences that match their interests. McLennan Community College’s (MCC) Kids College bridges that gap, offering programs that satisfy both goals and this year, Kids College is expanding its offerings with four new career-oriented academies: Fire Academy, Law Enforcement Academy, Veterinary Technology Academy, and Healthcare Academy.
The specialized one-day academies begin in June and pre-registration is required.
- The fire academy is open to children, ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 12. This academy is in partnership between the MCC Fire Academy and the City of Waco Fire Department.
- The law enforcement, healthcare, and veterinary technology academies are open to children, ages 5 to 12. The law enforcement academy is a partnership between MCC Police Department and Waco SWAT.
- Classes are taught by industry leaders and specialists.
"The Kids College Career Academies were created to give local kids the chance to explore career paths, connect with real industry leaders, discover the exciting programs at MCC, and most importantly – have fun while dreaming big about their future,” MCC Coordinator of Community Programs Jasmine Kirk said.
These programs reflect MCC’s commitment to building strong community connections and exposing the next generation of leaders to college and career possibilities early. Industry leaders and specialists will discuss their training, education, and careers, and will showcase some of the equipment and vehicles they operate.
Each academy is offered once a month in June and July, with limited seats available at $79 per participant. The classes will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and camp locations will vary. Registration is open until the day the class begins but will close early if all spots are filled.
