MCC’s Adult Education & Literacy Program Receives $10,000 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Adult Literacy

Waco, Texas – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) recently awarded McLennan Community College’s (MCC) Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program a $10,000 grant to support adult literacy. The funds are a part of a record-setting, one-day donation in the Foundation’s history of more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs in the 48 states in which Dollar General operates.

“For over 30 years, the Foundation has been investing in literacy and basic education programs in our hometown communities,” shared Denine Torr, Executive Director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “This grant announcement is a celebration of our unwavering commitment to student and teacher success. We are grateful to all the grant recipients for their commitment to advancing education and helping students thrive.”

Each year, DGLF awards funds to nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer, and youth literacy programs.

“The MCC Adult Education & Literacy program is committed to empowering individuals through education, and the generous support from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation allows us to extend that mission even further,” said AEL Program Director Michelle Telg-Moore. “These funds will help expand access to essential literacy, workforce readiness, and digital skills classes – ensuring more adults in our community can achieve their educational goals, secure meaningful employment, and contribute more fully to the economic and social vitality of Central Texas.”

MCC’s Adult Education & Literacy program provides opportunities for students to acquire the skills needed to enter the workforce, earn a high school equivalency, enter college, and begin training for a career. Courses are available online and in-person, and are free for students that meet program requirements.
