Accounting

Every company needs an accounting department to make sure business runs efficiently, records are kept accurately and finances are handled properly. In this program, you will learn to record business transactions, prepare financial statements, reconcile bank accounts, depreciate plant assets and use methods of inventory. Employment opportunities include accounting assistant, payroll clerk, accounts receivable clerk, inventory specialist, billing clerk and cashier.

In today's world of business and industry, the accounting profession offers dozens of opportunities that are expected to continue to grow. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, accounting is one of the largest growth occupations in the economy, with more than 200,000 new accounting jobs expected in the next decade.

Those entering this challenging profession may analyze financial records, manage budgets or evaluate taxes. Accountants and auditors work in private businesses or public agencies, both in U.S. companies and international business.

MCC's specialized accounting program prepares you to enter this growing field by combining classroom concepts in business and accounting theory with practical manual and automated applications.

Mission

The mission of the instructional accounting unit is to provide quality education and training in the areas of bookkeeping, financial accounting, managerial accounting, payroll accounting, federal income tax, computerized accounting applications, and accounting practicum experience through internships to all students enrolled in credit courses. Additionally, this instructional department is responsible for: improving the accounting skills of learners; improving the academic persistence among students through advising, counseling and tutoring; expanding technology skills of students; and increasing the training opportunities and qualifications for workers needed in local businesses.
