About the Distinguished Lecture Series

The McLennan Distinguished Lecture Series is designed to enrich the cultural experience for McLennan Community College students and the community at large by bringing nationally known speakers to Waco to discuss politics, science, literature and popular culture.

The program started in 2004 with Afghan-American author Tamim Ansary. Nobel prize-winner and co-founder of DNA Dr. James Watson spoke in 2005, and Bill Nye, “The Science Guy,” came to campus in 2006. The lecture in 2007 was former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and in 2009 was Alice Schroeder, author of Warren Buffet’s biography. The speaker in 2010 was investigative reporter Lisa Ling and in 2011 was groundbreaking neurosurgeon and author Dr. Ben Carson. Bob Woodward, the reporter who broke the Watergate Scandal, was the speaker in 2013.
