Orchestra

About

The McLennan Community Orchestra was founded in 2020 with the goals of providing orchestral performing opportunities for MCC students and community musicians and providing free performances of orchestral repertoire to the community. Since 2020, the orchestra has grown to about 50 musicians.

The Orchestra typically presents two to four concerts each year and frequently collaborates with other MCC and community arts organizations. Recent performances have included selections from overtures and symphonies by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Sibelius; Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem and Duruflé’s Requiem with the Central Texas Choral Society; and selections from ballets and operas by Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, and Stravinsky with choreography by Joseph A. Taylor.

For announcements about upcoming concerts, join our email list or find the MCO on Facebook or Instagram.

How to Join

The MCO rehearses Thursday evenings, 7:00-9:00, at MCC. Membership in the MCO is open to all orchestral string players (violin, viola, cello, and bass), with no audition required. Woodwinds, brass and percussion are included in limited numbers (audition may be required).

MCC students may register for MUEN 1122 to participate in the orchestra for credit and are eligible to audition for scholarship.

Community members (non-students) register through Continuing Education.
