Registration Continues for Spring Second 8-Week Courses

Jan. 19, 2022

Prospective students still have a chance to enroll in courses at McLennan Community College this spring with the College’s 8-Week course sections. Registration for Second 8-Week courses continues through March 12 for classes beginning March 14. Current McLennan students may register 24 hours a day, seven days a week through WebAdvisor. New students should visit www.mclennan.edu/admissions/become-a-student/index.html to learn how to become a student at McLennan.

Students spend the same number of hours in the classroom in 8-Week courses as they would in traditional 16-Week courses, but courses are completed in half the time. The shorter period for the courses allows students to focus on two subjects per 8-Week session rather than the four or five subjects studied in the traditional 16-Week schedule. Research shows that students are more successful when attention is limited to fewer subjects, as they are less likely to get overwhelmed and potentially drop courses. These offerings also allow more flexibility for scheduling, and students may be able to earn a degree faster.

A wealth of resources are available for students at McLennan including three recently-launched programs to help students succeed on their educational journey. ExpressPath highlights an extensive list of certificates and occupational skills awards that can be completed in one year or less. These options allow students to receive training and advance their skills quickly to help land higher-paying jobs. Highlander Restart is a new debt-forgiveness program aimed to assist and provide resources to former students who owe the College money, want to re-enroll, and wish to complete a degree or certificate at MCC. The third program provides grants of $500-2500 per semester to students affected by COVID-19 through the Texas Reskilling Support Fund. Funds are also available to students through the MCC Foundation’s Childcare Grant program. The program will pay $500 per month toward new Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS)-licensed childcare throughout 2022.
