MCC to Tarleton

Start Here.  Finish Here.

Thanks to our partnership with Tarleton State University, you can now complete a full bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering—without ever leaving the MCC campus. You’ll begin with foundational courses at MCC, then continue directly into upper-level Tarleton engineering classes right here in Waco.

Which degrees are offered?

Tarleton currently offers the following degrees through the University Center at MCC:

If you're planning to pursue the Mechanical Engineering degree, follow MCC’s AS in Mechanical Engineering plan, but be sure to take Thermodynamics in the fall and Mechanics of Materials in the spring of the year before you transfer to the Tarleton program.

How are classes offered?

Tarleton’s engineering courses are held on the MCC campus, taught by Tarleton faculty. Some classes are in person, others are taught live via video from another locationbut you’ll still attend with your MCC-based classmates. A few labs may require occasional travel to the Stephenville campus, but the vast majority of the work can be completed right here in Waco.

When do I need to apply to Tarleton?

You won’t need to apply to Tarleton until your final spring semester at MCC—typically when you’re enrolled in courses like Mechanics of Materials, Dynamics, and Differential Equations. Be sure to check the Tarleton admissions website for exact deadlines and application instructions.  (hyperlink)

Can I take classes at MCC and Tarleton at the same time?

Yes! Thanks to a special consortium agreement between MCC and Tarleton, you can be enrolled in both institutions during the same semester and still qualify for a unified financial aid package.

That said, Tarleton engineering courses have strict prerequisites, so you’ll need to complete the necessary MCC coursework before jumping into upper-level classes. Many students begin their Tarleton engineering courses while still finishing up general education requirements (like English, History, or Government) at MCC.  More information about how this works is available on the University Center Website.

What are my next steps?

If you are just getting started in engineering, follow the standard enrollment process for MCC students. Visit our Advising & Planning page for guidance, or reach out to us directly at engr@mclennan.edu.

If you're entering courses like Statics, Calculus III, or Physics II, you’re approaching the point where transfer planning becomes important. This is the time to connect with Tarleton to make sure everything is in place for a smooth transition.
